Nobuichi Ootake, born in Fukushima in 1959, worked for a hydroelectric power company before being captivated by maki-e lacquerware. After apprenticeship, he became an independent Aizu lacquerware maki-e artisan and was certified as a Japanese traditional craftsman in 2013. With private exhibitions mainly in his birthplace and Tokyo, he promotes Aizu-nuri. His daughter, Yuko Nihei, also works as a maki-e artist at Hokurushi-do.
